FilterWorkbench (Filterværksted) - Release Notes

Version 1.0 – August 17, 2026

Initial public release of FilterWorkbench (Filterværksted) a Gramps gramplet.

Included

A Gramps gramplet for building, saving, editing, sharing and testing your own person filters — with reusable helper filters as building blocks. It lives in the People view sidebar and keeps its filters completely separate from Gramps' own filter editor list.

Tested on

• Gramps 5.1, 5.2 and 6.0.x, Windows and Linux.

macOS has not been tested.

Version 2.0 – September 2, 2026

• Export to / Remove from Gramps' own Filter Editor. A finished filter (and the helper filters it needs) can be copied into Gramps' custom_filters.xml so it appears as a native custom filter, and removed again just as cleanly. Non‑destructive: existing filters are never overwritten, and shared helper filters are reused rather than duplicated. FilterWorkbench refuses to write while Gramps' own Filter Editor is open.
• Tidier deletion. Deleting a main filter now also removes the helper filters it uses that nothing else needs, while keeping shared helpers and any separate main filters it referenced. The confirmation lists exactly what will be deleted and what will stay.
• Reworked sidebar layout. Main filters now show as a tree with their helper filters nested underneath; a type‑to‑filter box narrows the list; a Guide button opens the built‑in guide; and the Gramps bridge (Export to / Remove from) sits in its own section at the bottom.
• Built‑in Guide. Opens GUIDE.html, and GUIDE_DK.html automatically when Gramps runs in Danish.
